About Us

The S(w)inging Voices Verl are a mixed choir of around 60 passionate singers between the ages of 22 and 85.
Our repertoire is mostly in English, ranging from expressive gospel music to well-known pop classics and American traditionals. Under the musical direction of Markus Berkmann, we work on vocal technique, rich harmonies, dynamic arrangements, and stylistic elements from jazz and contemporary music.

Founded in 1997, our choir has grown continuously and developed a strong community spirit. Regular rehearsal weekends, choir trips, summer events, and Christmas celebrations are an important part of who we are.

Our Music

We perform a wide variety of styles:

  • Gospel – soulful, emotional, and energetic

  • Pop & Ballads – from uplifting hits to moving classics

  • Traditionals & Jazz-influenced arrangements

Our repertoire includes well-known pieces by artists such as Curtis Mayfield, Queen, Michael Jackson, U2, and others.

Meet the Team

Musical Director & Pianist – Markus Berkmann
Trained at the Bundesmusikakademie Trossingen and experienced as both conductor and accompanist, Markus brings musical precision, creativity, and enthusiasm to our choir work.

Violin – Gesine Blomberg-Laurenz
Supports the choir instrumentally and contributes to sectional rehearsals and musical development.

Percussion – Ute Weidemann
Adds rhythmic energy with cajon and other percussion instruments while singing in the alto section.
